It’s fair to say the last 12 months have been extraordinary from an MIBI perspective. Never before has the Bureau had to deal with issues of such geopolitical magnitude, all undertaken while maintaining our regular service and also seeing through the rollout of important new measures which will themselves have a significant impact on the industry.

A strong attendance of over 150 people attended the MIBI’s Annual Conference which was held in the Morrison Hotel Dublin on Wednesday 2nd October.

Valid Irish insurance discs will serve as proof of insurance for those driving in UK, including Northern Ireland, in event of ‘no deal’ Brexit

STILL TIME TO GET YOUR GREEN CARDS AHEAD OF UPDATED BREXIT DATE – MIBI

The Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Ireland (MIBI) has advised all motorists expecting to drive in Northern Ireland or the rest of the UK in the days immediately after Brexit they still have time to get their Green Cards. Policyholders who may be impacted and have not already received a Green Card are encouraged to contact their insurance providers this week to ensure they receive their documentation before the updated Brexit date of 12th April.

CONFERENCE 2018: MIBI CONTINUING THEIR JOURNEY OF MODERNISATION

The Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Ireland (MIBI) is continuing its journey of modernisation, attendees at the Annual Conference heard. The advances made to the MIBI Constitution, improved efforts to combat fraud, enhanced corporate governance and developments in the wider insurance sector were all cited as having contributed to the heightened performance of the MIBI over the past twelve months.

ANTI FRAUD MEASURES HELPING REDUCE NUMBER OF MIBI CLAIMS

The Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Ireland (MIBI) believes the strategy they introduced for fighting fraud is impacting on the market, after recording an 8 percent decrease in claims involving uninsured or untraced vehicles during the first 7 months of 2018. Over the January to July period this year, the MIBI received a total of 1,572 claims, a drop of 144 in total when compared to the same period in 2017.

JUMP IN UNINSURED CLAIMS WITNESSED IN 2016 SUSTAINED IN 2017

Claims caused by uninsured and untraced vehicles remain worryingly high. The MIBI remain committed to working with key Government and Industry stakeholders to combat this problem, whilst compensating the victims of uninsured drivers.
