The Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Ireland (MIBI) has advised all motorists expecting to drive in Northern Ireland or the rest of the UK in the days immediately after Brexit they still have time to get their Green Cards. Policyholders who may be impacted and have not already received a Green Card are encouraged to contact their insurance providers this week to ensure they receive their documentation before the updated Brexit date of 12th April.

The Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Ireland (MIBI) is continuing its journey of modernisation, attendees at the Annual Conference heard.  The advances made to the MIBI Constitution, improved efforts to combat fraud, enhanced corporate governance and developments in the wider insurance sector were all cited as having contributed to the heightened performance of the MIBI over the past twelve months.

The Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Ireland (MIBI) believes the strategy they introduced for fighting fraud is impacting on the market, after recording an 8 percent decrease in claims involving uninsured or untraced vehicles during the first 7 months of 2018.  Over the January to July period this year, the MIBI received a total of 1,572 claims, a drop of 144 in total when compared to the same period in 2017.

An interesting per capita heatmap of MIBI's uninsured and untraced (hit & run) 2017 claims by county, and an analysis of claims volumes by county considering urbanisation. This allows comparison of claim rates between counties having regard for their population sizes.
