MIBI CEO PAYS TRIBUTE TO
DEPARTING CHAIR, DEIRDRE

Monday, 29 July 2019

At a recent Board Meeting of the Motor Insurers’ Bureau of Ireland (MIBI), Ms. Deirdre Fagan stepped down as Chairperson of the MIBI having completed her three year term in the role.

Ms. Fagan is Head of Legal Services at AXA Insurance, having trained as a solicitor and working with Mason Hayes and Curran. She was appointed to the role of Chairperson in 2016, following her nomination by the MIBI Board.

David Fitzgerald, Chief Executive of the MIBI has paid tribute to her work, saying, “We are immensely grateful to Deirdre for the fantastic work and thorough dedication she has shown to the MIBI over the past few years. She has been an excellent chairperson, helping to guide the MIBI over a very busy and challenging period in our history.

“She has been a calm and reassuring presence during meetings of the MIBI Board, despite the often times difficult topics of considerable magnitude which have required her attention and finesse, including the notable Setanta case. During that period and beyond Deirdre has been a great leader and counsel for the MIBI, ensuring that we took smart, strategic decisions.

“Another aspect of her influence was supporting the effective modernisation undertaken by the MIBI to align itself to best practice in the financial services industry. The MIBI has introduced an INED, an Audit Committee and internal audit function during her time as Chairperson. We also have developed an extensive employee engagement programme, helping to foster a rewarding and enjoyable culture for staff working in the MIBI.

“As Chairperson, Deirdre has always been available for the MIBI, a real asset to the Bureau – despite the fact she was combining her role as Chairperson with her eminent work as the Head of Legal Services at AXA Insurance. That she was able to balance these extremely important roles was an immense achievement and testament to her ability to handle diverse and intensive challenges.

“Everyone in the MIBI who has had the opportunity to work with Deirdre during her three year term will have been greatly impressed by her on a professional and personal basis. Whilst we are very sorry to see Deirdre complete her term of office, we are delighted that she will remain a Director of the MIBI and continue to contribute to the Board ,” Mr. Fitzgerald concluded.
