Celebrating International Women’s Day at MIBI

MIBI’s Diversity and Inclusion, and Engagement Committees were delighted to welcome Caitríona Somers as our guest speaker to help us celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) 2024. Caitríona is the MIBI’s first Independent Non-Executive Director (INED), serving on the MIBI Board, and Chair of our Audit Committee, for over 7 years, where her experience and professionalism have delivered invaluable contributions to our Board.
Caitríona shared her journey through the world of insurance and financial services over the years, entering the industry as a school leaver and rising to Chief Executive level. Caitríona achieved this through life-long learning and embracing opportunities and challenges throughout her storied career. She spoke of her experience of having mentors and champions along the way and how she in turn still pays that forward to others. This resonates with the IWD 2024 theme which is to #inspireinclusion.
When we inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion, we forge a better world. And when women themselves are inspired to be included, there’s a sense of belonging, relevance, and empowerment. #IWD2024
Our Chief Executive, David Fitzgerald, also provided an update on MIBI’s Women in Finance initiative. In Autumn 2023, the MIBI became proud signatories to the Women in Finance Charter. In signing up to the charter, the MIBI committed to:
- Striving to achieve 50:50 gender balance at board level
- Supporting development and nurturing the ambitions and aspiration of all employees to achieve their potential
- Examining our recruitment methods to ensure gender balance and inclusion is built in at recruitment stage
- Ensuring MIBI has flexible and family friendly policies in place
- Reporting on progress annually
IWD is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. #InspireInclusion is the theme for 2024. When we inspire others to understand and value women’s inclusion, we forge a better world.
